S Collins & Son is a family run, award-winning butcher, located just outside Glasgow in the small town of Muirhead, that has been serving customers for over 70 years. The business, which is now in its third generation of the Collins family was initially started by Stewart Collins in 1955. Christine has been with the company for well over 10 years. She started as a shop counter assistant and then worked her way up to order packer and supervisor, where she excelled. From there, she became a shop manager in one of the company’s new satellite stores. Christine is described as reliable, trustworthy and dedicated and what is more is doing a “fantastic job” in the satellite store.

Tazmin has been an enthusiastic learner from the first day she started on her apprenticeship, and her commitment to the business is reflected in her passing her EPA, earning a ‘Pass With Excellence.’  Her theory work has always been completed to a very high standard and in a timely manner, this is fuelled by her willingness to learn more. Tazmin is further developing her practical skills and understanding of the business before tackling her Level 3, which will no doubt be approached with the same gusto. Tazmin has a good eye for detail in her practical skills, whether creating value-added products, counter displays or carcass butchery, and shows a desire for customers to leave the shop happy, confirming her understanding about the importance of good customer service. Armed with her knowledge gained in the catering industry, she enjoys cooking and talking to customers about the dishes they are making, whether it is a recommendation made by her or obtaining a recipe from them to try for herself.

Kathryn is known for her work ethic and is always looking for new and tasty ideas to try. The retail premises are excellent and customers can always find a great display of various meats and cuts for all occasions and tastes. Her proposer said: “Kathryn has worked so hard over the years to get the shop how she wanted it. We are all super proud of what she has achieved and the standard she sets.” Kathryn took the helm at the fourth generation butchers, which has a long-established reputation for quality. She is described as extremely well qualified and experienced, and has made a tangible impact on the business. She is an advocate for ‘farm to plate’ transparency, also delivering and expanding on sustainability in the supply chain to support other local businesses. As a result, Nicholsons has expanded its offering and is recognised as a shining example of a small independent retailer at heart of the community.

Uptons of Bassett Ltd

Cooking is in Katarina’s heart and in her soul, and she is on a mission to inspire everyone to fall in love with cooking and appreciate quality food. She has her own small business, teaching and cooking at the Uptons of Bassett shop, and also does so at other businesses. She is definitely not ‘just’ the owner’s wife, but is widely recognised by everyone as a great addition to the overall business in her own right. Katarina is constantly helping customers with cooking instructions for products, as well as delivering goods to customers when needed (very helpful when the delivery team don’t have the time). Her proposer commented: “All the customers love her, and Katarina’s customer service is second to none. Her nickname is Mama, as all the staff go to her with any problems, even when these have nothing to do with work.” Katarina has recently published a cookery book, which is selling really well. Last year she also won Overall Sandwich Designer of the Year for her smoked brisket, which is also sold at the Uptons of Bassett shop.

Kelly has been with the company for over 10 years. She started as a shop server and has worked her way up to her current position of cooked production manager with her determination, outstanding work ethic and a desire to get the job done. Not stranger to hard work, she starts at 5.30am most mornings and locks up the premises four times a week at 6.00pm, driving the business forward every minute of every day. She also has a brilliant attendance record with minimal absenteeism throughout her impressive career. Trustworthy and reliable are another two of Kelly’s characteristics acknowledged by colleagues, and it is clear that the business would not be as successful as it is without Kelly’s involvement over the last 10 plus years. Her organisational skills and dedication are second to none and she remains a valued and successful member of the team at S Collins & Son.

Rachel is described as a driving force of innovation, perfection and passion within F. Doncaster’s Butchers. She continues to push the business forward with new exciting ideas, such as her best-selling salt beef reuben sandwich and slow cooked pulled brisket cobs. She works alongside the butchers to perfect the recipes and as a result these popular products sell-out regularly. Along with other Southwell staff, Rachel creates a welcoming, friendly and professional customer experience, as well as providing excellent knowledge of products and “amazing customer service”, whether she’s serving on the meat or deli counter. Rachel, who was a finalist last year, has brought a new lease of life into the Southwell shop. She has identified her customers’ needs and colleagues affirm she is definitely one in a million!

Melanie Greaves won the Women in Meat Industry Awards Wholesaling category in 2020. Since then she has opened a beautiful foodhall in Ascot, Berkshire, which has a state of the art boutique butcher’s shop. Melanie is described as unique, a woman who has worked across all areas of the industry in her career. Working with Highland Meats on Scotch PGI, Scotbeef, QMS and Grass Roots Farming, Melanie buys in beef where it is dry-aged at T&G before it is sent across to her butchery. Melanie is a dry-age specialist and is known for outstanding beef within her shop and wholesale company. Other areas of expertise lie in butchery, marketing, sales, displays, product innovation, farming and HR. Melanie has over 13 years’ experience in a challenging industry. One of her most recent project has been working with Grass Roots Farming and launching grass-fed boxed beef. Melanie works hard to champion regenerative farming and teaches both butchers and consumers about the UK meat industry. Her sheer drive and determination to succeed is evident in everything she has achieved so far in her career.

Stephanie Bale

Ethical Game

Three years ago Stephanie set up Ethical Game, which specialises in ethically sourced, local game meat in response to demand and stalkers reporting “masses of thrown away carcasses” because they could not connect to customers. Her partner had butchery experience, so after trialling the business to friends on a makeshift table in the garden, she decided to go all in. Ethical Game now has a custom built facility, plus regular deliveries to a dedicated customer group, attendance at regular markets and a range of products on offer including venison, wood pigeon, hare, rabbit and more. It seems Stephanie is in charge of pretty much all of it, and has even trained a butcher. She manages all the social media accounts, photography, recipe development, finances, company admin, marketing, infrastructure, maintenance, cleaning, and as if this is not enough, she heads up a new charcuterie arm, developing 100% wild venison salami, chorizo, biltong and hams. She has developed the unique selling point of ethically-sourced and ethically-produced and packaged meat, using only local game, culled for pest control/woodland management, with low food miles, negative carbon and all presented in completely plastic-free packaging.

Michelle manages a community-focused, independent butchers where nothing is too much trouble when it comes to her customers. Whether it’s in store or dealing with catering clients, Michelle works tirelessly to ensure the highest quality while sticking firmly to her ethos of affordable food. She’s a member the local Court Leet and helps to raise money for five different charities through the year. A well-loved business owner in Bromsgrove, she’s been able to turn around what was a failing business to one that the town and her colleagues are incredibly proud of. A previous winner of the Women In Meat Awards Independent Retailer category, last year she won Best Independent Retailer at the Birmingham Business Awards, beating others from across a spectrum of industries. One proposer commented: “She makes an outstanding contribution to the community particularly in the field of food allergens and gluten-free home made products.” Whilst another said: “Michelle sources the best stock and the best quality. Her service is always with a smile. She is highly knowledgeable in her field and is always happy to answer questions in regard to cuts of meat and ways of cooking it.  The standards in the shop  are extremely high and cleanliness, presentation and customer service is second to none.”

One of Amy’s proposers states that she has done so much for Morgan’s and is outstanding in supporting the family business while holding down multiple other jobs. A finalist in the awards last year, Amy is always looking at new ways to build Morgan’s reputation and is working on a great net-zero plan, whilst keeping high quality produce available for customers. This typifies the work she does to keep Morgan’s on the front foot. She also manages the company’s social media independently, which is a huge job in itself but very important to small independent businesses. She does this all without needing to be asked – even when she’s away on holiday she schedules posts and replies to emails. One colleague commented: “We can’t thank her enough and we’d love her to be a finalist and hopefully winner, to show our appreciation and how amazing she is.” Miles Morgan, Amy’s dad added: “Amy’s out of the box thinking has increasing our footfall and turn over considerably in the time she’s been with us, her eye for detail and money management has meant we have been able to clear all our outstanding debt without any cut backs to our products or produce in the shop. She always puts others first and this has made the business the success it is today.”

Millie is a dedicated individual who has shown a passion for butchery ever since she began working on the till at a local farm shop. Millie went on to start her own business in her early 20’s building on this passion for locally-sourced, good food. She also rears some of the beef and lamb she supplies. Millie has developed from being a butcher’s assistant, to owning her own butchery and her various proposers agree that she has done a great job setting up and running her own small business. Millie is someone who always goes over and above for her customers, nothing is too much trouble and she will always adapt to her customers’ requirements. One proposer commented: “Millie is an incredible young woman, I have seen her grow from looking over the butcher’s shoulders, to leading the way.” Millie puts her heart and soul in to her business and is very enthusiastic about British farming and also in providing the best quality products to the local community.

Kate leads a team of five meat and poultry buyers, as well as two fish buyers. She is a tenacious commercial leader looking to drive value back into the business without compromising on the quality, high standards of animal welfare and relationships with the Waitrose supply base and supply farmers. Kate was instrumental in securing a multi-million pound investment for pig farmers at a time when they really needed it, she has worked tirelessly with the Waitrose supply chain teams and suppliers to ensure shelves are stocked at a time where rising costs have put a strain on supply for many. She spends a huge amount of time out visiting suppliers across the country, forging relationships and building her understanding of what it takes to be an integral part of the meat supply chain into a multiple retailer. Michelle has worked in the poultry industry since she was 17 years old and has previous experience with Marshall Foods, Grampian, Vion and 2 Agriculture. She has worked in all areas at the poultry site in Sandycroft when the site director decided to place her in Agriculture. Michelle started working in Maelor foods eight years ago where she has built up the Agriculture Department from scratch and has been very successful growing the processing plant from the its start to now processing one million birds per week. Michelle’s proposer adds: “Michelle has a very good reputation within the poultry sector and is a fantastic manager. She has also earned great respect from her colleagues and farmers.”

Very swiftly Polly was coaching and leading the team, before officially becoming the pig and poultry sales manager. She not only leads company strategy, coaches a team, hires and bring on new talent, and is always contactable, she does it whilst encouraging the team to have fun. She undertakes this important role because she is passionate about the poultry industry and is constantly striving to help processors continue to create a cheap, affordable protein, sustainably. Always championing what’s right for the industry, she is a mentor and ‘boss’ and is a great friend and inspiration to her colleagues. Her proposer adds: “I remember going to conferences with Catriona when we were only two of five women out of the 100 men present.” How things have changed and Catriona has certainly played her part in progressing the opportunities for women in the meat and poultry sector by hard work and example. She also champions turkey as a product not just for Christmas but as protein-packed meat that is a nutritious mealtime staple.”

Nompilo demonstrates an exceptional approach to driving KPI delivery at site. A people-centric leader, she continually demonstrates an ability to break all barriers within the industry. With almost 20 years of service, starting as a graduate at Pilgrim’s Europe, she has used every opportunity to learn and develop both herself and those around her. She has an incredible knowledge of the end-to-end business, gained while working across a number of roles in technical, supply chain commercial and now operations. Nompilo’s “squiggly” career took her from commercial, as a technical and development controller, to site director. In her two years as site director, Nompilo has celebrated numerous milestones with a marked improvement across operational, financial and people KPIs. She has also developed other members of the management team with recent internal promotions to ‘head of’ roles for two members of her site senior leadership team. Nompilo always has a holistic approach to manufacturing demands and ensures the best solution, whether it be short-term problem solving or long term strategic planning. She makes everyone on site feel included with daily walks of the factory floor, engaging team members- all 1,200 of them!

Dyanna (known as Dy) is an unassuming champion for the poultry industry, well-respected by producers, service providers and retailers alike. She is undoubtedly an expert on all production matters across breeding, hatchery and growing operations, but in addition she is also unfailingly helpful and collaborative in her approach. She has worked with Avara for many years and through some incredibly challenging times, when those at the ‘hard end’ of farming operations were dealing with both the practical and emotional impact of unprecedented levels of avian influenza in 2022/23. Dy plays a pivotal role in driving farm level compliance and she is always supportive of the audit and corrective action process (when this can be a challenging event for all). Her proposer added: “It would be lovely for Dy to receive recognition for her contribution to the industry as she manages to be a pleasure to work with on both a personal and professional basis.”

Nicola Richards

Nicola, has given her all in the last couple of years at a particularly busy time for Danish Crown. She has helped many at the Bugle site as well helping to set up the new state of the art Rochdale site. Nicola has had to travel far and wide to get the business to where it is today and she really does give her all to the company. She is always there for a chat or to offer a helping hand. She actively supports her team, but also challenges them, helping individuals with their own career development within the meat industry as well as progressing her own. Nicola has made a real difference to the operational finance structure within Danish Crown, and she has been pivotal in aligning procedures and reporting across the UK company, ensuring that effective communication is maintained with Denmark. Her experience and knowledge within this industry is invaluable and since joining Danish Crown she has become a real asset to the business. Nicola is described as “genuinely a lovely person” and has a real passion and care for her team.

Rachael was promoted last year due to what one of her many proposers report is her total commitment and enthusiasm shown to the business. Rachael is said to be “hugely customer and service focused” – continually liaising with the internal sales team and external customers to ensure the department delivers the best quality meat possible. In order to achieve this, she has built a great rapport with suppliers to ensure that the business receives the best quality products into the butchery. Meat sales have continued to grow substantially, and this has been massively impacted by Rachael’s approach within the department. Rachael has proven herself to be an invaluable butchery office supervisor at Creed Butchery due to what is described as her exceptional organisational skills and extensive knowledge of the meat industry.

Sally has been running the premium butchery Primrose Herd for 25 years, and is a passionate advocate for native breeds. The business was originally based around her own herd of heritage breed pigs, but she has more recently diversified into other meats from traditional West Country farms. Sally has grown the family business from two pigs (gifted by her father) in 2000, to one of Cornwall’s best-known food producers. Maintaining the highest welfare and production standards, she’s adapted to the times – moving from the farm butchery to an industrial unit in Truro to keep up with demand. Primrose Herd Pork is often name-dropped on menus at top hotels and restaurants, and the online business is strong, yet she still ensures the family business has a regular presence at farmers markets and food festivals, keeping a face-to-face connection with customers.

Caroline Anna Prince

After taking on the Frank Family Butcher shop two years ago together with Simon Frank, Caroline (known as Anna) resigned from her previous employment running a café on the family farm, to dedicate more time and help push the new venture as much as possible. From starting two years ago with little direct knowledge of the meat industry, to today being able to carry out all aspects of the shop work, it has been a rapid journey. Alongside all of this, Anna and her own partner have two young children to think about, but Anna has gone above and beyond taking the reins of the office side of the job and has been learning all that’s needed on the job. From payroll to invoices, to dealing with accountants and overseers, she deals effectively with any problems. Her proposer said: “Personally I think Anna has learnt as much in two years as some might have taken 10 to learn. Whilst setting up the business Anna has also planned and overseen a full shop refit – taking it all in her stride.”

Penny has over 30 years’ experience in the foodservice sector and was the first winner of this WIMIA category in 2018. She also won the prestigious Excellence Award at the 2019 Meat Management Awards the following year – being the first female to win this important accolade. Penny promotes and encourages women into the meat industry whenever she can and mentors female talent. Penny was appointed managing director of Fairfax Meadow Europe back in 2012, having been sales director since 2002. Now part of Hilton Foods, Fairfax Meadow celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and everyone acknowledges the key role Penny has played in helping the business achieve this landmark anniversary. Her proposer added: “Penny is a standout individual when it comes to being a great example of what women can achieve in the meat industry. She has smashed many glass ceilings over the years and continues to be a fantastic role model for young people wanting a career in the food industry.”

Cathy’s ability to reach out to all levels of staff and to know how to get the best from everyone is described by one of her nominators as amazing. She also has a large network of people within the processing and manufacturing sector, built up over her 27 years in this role. Cathy has also mentored and supported all other areas of the business, whether office or factory based, and has been a key player in the success of the site. She has successfully completed Level 5 in supply chain and other management courses, and is happy to share her knowledge to a wider audience. In short, her passion and dedication to her role at Danish Crown is second to none! One proposer added: “Cathy is always willing to help to the point where she took a call from me on her 50th birthday to help with some issues that I was having. She is a fountain of Danish Crown knowledge and is really supportive of her team. She has registered members of her team for extra learning opportunities and is always willing to go the extra mile to assist her colleagues.”

Always striving to create great food, she is known for pies and wholesome meals to suit all. Her creativity and research to provide the very best stands out in her work and her ability to cater for all dietary needs. Lilith cares and listens to what  the community requires and always puts a smile on their face, and always delivers. Lilith alongside her partner Michelle, is thriving in her role and her catering business is doing amazingly well. She makes everything fresh and offers great customer service. She also single-handedly makes everything sold in the deli. Not only that, but she is also a bit of a local celebrity in gluten-free and coeliac circles, and her business is the only place locally that handmakes an extensive range of gluten-free savoury products. Her outside catering services also make her very busy, where her food ranges from pork baps to BBQ products, to Caribbean meals and buffets.

Cassie Buckham began working at Campbell Brothers in 2018 within the telesales team, and progressed to work with the production side of the business before becoming dispatch supervisor in September 2021. Cassie brings more than 20 years’ experience to her role, having previously worked in food and beverage within hotels, managed a family-run café, and owned her own food truck. Cassie’s job title as dispatch supervisor does little to convey the essential role she plays within the business. With responsibility for ensuring that finished product is ready to be despatched to customers around the UK, she is effectively the gatekeeper, having oversight of everything that leaves the Campbell Brothers north site in Bonnyrigg. Cassie is passionate about the business, and understands that without customers there is no business, always putting the focus on delivering for the customer. She is a skilled multitasker and with the supply chain having faced disruptive challenges, Cassie’s commitment has seen her work longer days and additional shifts in order to ensure that deliveries are processed, packaged and dispatched on time.

Kerry started her career at an early age, leaving school to start in butchery at just 16 years. She opened her own butcher’s shop aged only 18, in a small village in Devon, where she became renowned for the meat quality and personal service to her clients and businesses. Kerry continued to develop her career as a butcher, by hand making sausages, which won awards. At 28, through a change in circumstances, Kerry made the very sad decision to close her butchers and pursue an alternative career in the food industry. She secured the position of quality assurance lead with Pilgrim’s UK in Bodmin, in the technical department. During this time Kerry has fully embraced her learning path and is has successfully completed a lead auditor course, which allows her to play a large part in the decision making and auditing of the entire site. Her confidence, knowledge and leadership from her butchery days have certainly shone through. Kerry has been enrolled onto the Level 6 Food Industry Technical Professional Degree course at Harper Adams, which runs over five years. She has now completed her second year of the degree and has so far achieved three straight distinctions in her coursework. Her commitment is described as exceptional. Kerry is a very active member of the technical team and is well respected throughout the factory and at other Pilgrim’s sites. She is always available to assist and provide excellent support and guidance to those who need it.

Camila’s journey and contributions at Moy Park, where she works at the feed mill manufacturing the feed for the birds, are described as nothing short of inspirational. She carries out the day-to-day activities associated with the running of the feed mill, ensuring that it operates safely and efficiently while meeting all required standards and targets. Camila’s attention to detail has set her apart as a standout employee in a predominantly male industry. Her meticulousness ensures that the quality of the feed is consistently high, directly impacting the health and productivity of the poultry. Despite the challenges, including working in an industry traditionally dominated by men, Camila’s enthusiasm remains unwavering. She embraced her role with vigour, breaking barriers and demonstrating that women can excel in any field they choose. Her positive attitude and passion for her work inspire her colleagues and contribute to a more inclusive and supportive work environment. Camila’s impact on the business extends beyond her technical skills. Chantelle joined the business in February 2021, initially working at the company’s Malton site in the value added department. She hit the ground running and made a very positive impact on the team and ultimately on the results obtained. She is a larger than life character and is hugely passionate about everything she does. More recently Chantelle has accepted the huge challenge of running one of the other company sites, which for many could be a somewhat daunting task, but Chantelle has risen to the challenge with alacrity and continues to shine. The Buitelaar Group started processing pigs for the first time ever in March 2014. Rohan, through her hard work and determination has managed to project manage and deliver a successful pork supply. The team is now processing over 450 pigs per week from a single RSPCA ODB farm in Oxfordshire and looking to expand. All products are placed into high end retail, foodservice and export markets. Rohan has been key in implanting all of the technical and planning work through the factory to ensure a high quality pork product is produced and supplied, providing outstanding service levels throughout. Buitelaar say that the rate at which the category has grown has been quite outstanding, and Rohan’s continuous hard work and commitment has played a major part in that success and development so far.

She joined the company in 2019 as a technical controller and was promoted to head of technical in 2021. In her current role, she oversees a team of 30 technical and quality professionals across four sites, manages a budget of £600,000, and successfully leads her team through more than 40 audits per year. Laura’s notable achievement is the implementation of Finnebrogue’s Food Safety and Culture Initiative, ensuring the highest standards of food production and consumer safety. She guarantees that every product exceeds regulatory requirements, enhancing Finnebrogue’s reputation as a reliable food manufacturer. By fostering a ‘Safety-First Culture’ through bespoke training, engaging activities and a dedicated Food Safety Week, Laura ensures continuous improvement. Her efforts contributed to Finnebrogue being named ASDA Supplier of the Year in 2023. Laura also played a pivotal role in opening Finnebrogue’s new plant-based factory in 2021, overseeing all aspects, from ingredients to new processes and customer standards in a high-care environment. Sonia commenced her Dawn Meats journey at a challenging time back in January 2021 when the company was operating in the thick of the Covid 19 Pandemic. The HR role during this time had the many additional tasks such as antigen testing, Covid payments, daily wellbeing calls and strict public health protocol that had to be adhered to. With limited handover and support due to the pandemic, Sonia not only adapted quickly, but soon started to put her own imprint on the site and drove HR metrics and standards to a new level. There has been various changes on her site within the leadership team, but she has managed this effectively and developed strong working relationships with all key stakeholders. She has been involved in many continuous improvement HR projects such as policy harmonisation, online payslips and the HR ROPA, all the while expanding her own professional development and undertaking mentoring training and completing a diploma in Employment Law with IBEC. Sonia is determined, committed, hard working with the highest of standards and is a key member of the Irish HR team in Dawn Meats. She is calm, trustworthy with strong emotional intelligence – which is a key trait of the very best HR practitioners.

One of Lucy’s former managers said: “Lucy Crayston is an intelligent, committed and highly driven member of our management team. Katie is a natural leader and really enjoys bringing people together to work towards the same goal whilst never backing away from awkward conversations to reach a common solution. As food safety and quality manager at the Caroll’s Cross site, she demonstrates a passion for all aspects of her role and Katie always remains keen to expand her knowledge both for her current position and in regard to the wider business.

Zoe has worked for Associated Naturally for over 30 years and has experience in all aspects of the business, initially starting to work during school holidays where she was selecting and packing natural hog and sheep casings. Zoe was also in charge of Asco butchers sundries for several years and then became sales manager of the natural casing operation. She has recently been promoted to production site manager of the natural casing process plant at Haverhill. She is responsible for running the production site and fulfilling the company’s day to day orders. The business believes that Zoe, to the best of its knowledge, is one of the only ladies in the natural casing industry that has worked in abattoir supplies of material, and has also been involved in following the product through to sales to local butchers and factories in the UK. Her proposer adds that Zoe’s “dedication and enthusiasm, long-service to the natural casings industry and her constant desire for development, deserves to be noticed.”

With key responsibilities for the company’s biggest customers, ensuring product reaches them on time across Europe the UK and Ireland, Marie has a team of three now working with her and she relishes the added responsibilities. Dr Anne Richmond

Dr Anne Richmond has developed the company’s research and development credentials with all key customers in the poultry business unit. In addition to her full-time role, Dr Richmond also co-supervises six concurrent PhDs for the business and has already supported several other PhDs over the past five years. The company has 700 farms, 35 million chickens on the ground at any one time and 590 broiler farms. The R&D function cannot be overstated and helps keep the business in the forefront of its market. The business focus is a simple one in wanting to provide unparalleled expertise in the categories in which it operates. Dr Richmond is a key player in supporting the business and as a result research and insight are key enablers for the rest of the business and consistently help it respond to rapidly changing markets.

Ruth has been making charcuterie from her farm for 14 years; selling at food festivals and farmers markets. She is known for making award winning Laverbread Salami after developing it at Wales Food Technology Centre in Ceredigion around eight years ago. This superb product has really stood the test of time and is loved by customers. It is also been featured on the menus of eight British embassies around the world, as well as at 10 Downing Street and in various hampers for royalty on more than one occasion. Ruth is not one to rest on her laurels and has just partnered up with retired international / Scarlets / Lions rugby player Ken Owens to create Sheriff’s Biltong. The Biltong is created with just three ingredients namely Welsh beef, sea-salt and spices. The Sheriff’s Biltong is already being exported to three countries , and has also found itself targeting the USA on a trade mission, where it was enjoyed at the British Embassy in New York and by the New York Yankees. Ruth has also developed a website where charcuterie products are available to buy online.

After working at the business for over three years, Julie has surpassed all expectations and defied gender-biased societal structures that may remain within the butchery sector. Julie is a proud Wigan local and has worked in retail/production for most of her working life. She began her career at Kings Fine Cooked Meats as a production operative in the factory, but after a position on the butcher’s counter became available, which at the time urgently needed to be filled, Julie fearlessly stepped up to the plate and swiftly moved to her current role – retail butchery assistant in the store. As well as enduring endless training and tuition from her new manager, she was also faced with an all-male department. With no previous butchery experience, Julie knew she was taking on a challenge, but due to her tenacity and persistent appetite for knowledge, she worked closely with the retail butchery manager to learn knife skills plus the importance of food safety and hygiene, as well as creating and innovating ways to keep the meat counter looking fresh and vibrant. Her proposer believes that one of Julie’s most valuable skills is her ability to produce vast amounts of exceptionally well butchered products. The increase in profit margins immediately after Julie joined the retail butchery team also confirms that she truly is an asset and an outstanding craft butcher.

Her attention to detail and creativity has led to the admiration and respect of all her work colleagues, including a number of experienced butchers who admit that they cannot do, or create what she can (two of which have retired and stated that they had not worked with anyone with Julie’s skillset). What makes her stand apart is that she is front of house, so not only is she creating the products but then serving the customer, offering advice for meal ideas, providing cooking times and instructions, subtly upselling and delivering the ‘foodie’ shopping experience that the business has become renown for. Mary retired from all her various roles last year, and over the decades has given outstanding service to the Meat & Livestock Commission (MLC), The Meat Training Council (MTC) and the Institute of Meat (IoM). Chairman of IoM Bill Jermey confirmed that Mary has worked for him in a secretarial role since about 2006 at MTC and then subsequently at the Food & Drink Training & Education Council (ftc) as well as the IoM. Described as an astounding support to her husband Keith, the CEO of the IoM, behind the scenes over many years, she ensured that the IoM annual prizegiving was well organised and ran smoothly – which is no mean achievement! Her proposer said: “This nomination could easily have been made for the training and education category too. However, whatever the outcome of voting, recognition of Mary would be a fitting reward for an amazing lady with a very long standing meat industry pedigree and a dedicated career to our trade.”

Pilgrim’s Europe’s agriculture strategy is built around three key pillars – Bird Welfare and Performance, Environment and Sustainability and Community, People and Engagement. Lesley has embodied these pillars throughout her career and has successfully forged her way in a male-dominated sector. Lesley’s career of 30 years began back in 1993 where, as a freshly graduated poultry student from Loughry College, she took up a role working with Farm Fed Chickens, working on chicken farms. Lesley developed her skills and passion for poultry and then moved to an advisory role where she undertook control planning placements and kill schedules. This quickly further honed her skill set, particularly around communication and dealing with farmers. After a buyout of Farm Fed Chickens by O’Kane Poultry Ltd in 2006, Lesley joined its broiler division where she brought both energy and teamwork to an already dedicated team. Lesley’s current role is NI Broiler Manager. Her availability and determination has resulted in the building of a fully engaged Broiler Team which continues to deliver outstanding performance together with the highest possible welfare standards. She has been an inspiration to her team who like her are starting out their career as farm advisors and area managers. Mary makes a real difference to the Pilgrim’s business by continuously driving improvements in quality and technical standards both in the company’s internal mills and in third party supply across pig and poultry estates. Widely recognised as a champion of feed and food safety, Mary uses her experience in food production and introduces innovative ideas to ensure compliance and feed safety. She has been appointed to the board of directors of the Northern Ireland Grain Trade Association and is currently chair of the Scientific Committee in that organisation. Mary does a fantastic job in representing the meat industry in that forum and also informs the Pilgrim’s business about new and amended legislation, as well as being part of the NIGTA lobby with guidance going direct to government on proposed legislation and policy. Mary is actually part of a delegation that, at the time of her nomination, was scheduled to meet with the Environment Minister and his team in Stormont. The company states that suppliers love working with Maggie and enjoy her highly professional business relations approach, as well as sharing discussion and knowledge on all the challenges that come with farming life, market outlooks and the environmental targets. Maggie has significantly developed her skills and knowledge of this fast-paced industry over the years. She has adapted rapidly to new traceability systems and specific customer requests and has embraced all the challenges that have come affecting the agri-food sector. She is also eagerly anticipating the environmental challenges that lie ahead for the business to reach its climate action targets for 2030 and ultimately 2050. Rachel graduated with an honours degree in Animal Science and subsequently completed an MSc in Meat Science and Technology at Bristol University. In 2010 she joined BQP as a trials technician graduate and quickly grew into the role, expanding her responsibilities and skills to the extent that she now manages the FBF research farm team as part of her wider role as nutrition and innovation manager – pigs, for Pilgrims Europe. A significant part of her role includes working together with many JBS colleagues sharing knowledge and developing new concepts for the Pilgrims Europe business. BQP has been a leading pig production company in the UK for many years creating many innovative strategies for the business. Rachel has been a key member of the BQP pig technical group which successfully delivered on many performance, sustainability and welfare solutions. She successfully lead a number of industry projects which are now in use across the UK pig industry including introducing camera systems to monitor and better understand pig behavioural and welfare studies. She is closely associated with Harper Adams University providing a link between academia and industry, and supports many young graduates embarking on a career in the pig industry within and beyond BQP. She has spearheaded the UK poultry industry transition from using PP packaging trays to fully recyclable PET. As recently as March 2024, leading food company Moy Park also teamed up with Sally and her female team to make the switch by also launching the kp Elite® MAP solution which helps maintain product shelf-life, reduce food waste and is wholly recyclable through kerbside collection. As part of this partnership, Moy Park has also introduced kp’s innovative lidding film, further enhancing its sustainability credentials. Marnie founded Chestnut Meats in 2006 when she bought her first three goats at a farm sale in Knutsford. At the time she was running a dairy farm. Two years later the cows were sold and a butchery was built. In 2010 Marnie became a Nuffield Scholar, studying the marketing of goat meat and over a twelve month period visited businesses in the UK and Europe, Australasia and North America, to learn from the best. On her return the 500 strong herd of breeding goats was sold, and the business concentrated on buying goats from farms across the UK. Currently over 20 farms supply kid or cull goat regularly into the business, some milking thousands of goats, others are smallholders who supply the business once a year. In 2016 Marnie bought the site on which she used to milk and converted the buildings to a butchery, which incorporates a large viewing window so customers can see what exactly the business does. Roisin introduced ‘PACK’ Health & Safety training, raising H&S awareness, creating an understanding in relation to accountability and risk assessment and this is a hugely important programme to the business. So much so that it has been added to the company’s standard training for team leaders and supervisors. ‘PACK’ is a set of modules which have been built bespoke to the red meat industry, principally Dawn Meats and Dunbia. While IOSH Managing Safely and similar training courses provide the basics and work well, they are designed to cover many different industry facets and can therefore be quite generic in application. This ‘pack’  started as three modules, then proceeded to a six pack, which now has been  enhanced with a further two modules, and is set to grow, and grow. The principles are providing a pathway for succession through the Dawn Meats / Dunbia factories, with prospective and already placed managers and supervisors being provided with a one stop shop for training to enable them to manage their areas and their people safely. The latest two modules were specifically designed by Roisin for Maintenance, Engineering & Hygiene Personnel as well as Operational Senior Management Teams.

The SAP SuccessFactors helps businesses bring HR closer to their employees, so they are more engaged, more productive and much smarter about the way they work. ABP Linden reports that Cathy has always been supportive in any role she has undertaken and in everything that she does for the business. Cathy puts everything into her work and makes a significant and valued contribution to the company as well. Helen’s innovative vision, dedication and commitment to excellence make her a worthy candidate for this award. Helen is nominated for the award in recognition of her “remarkable” contributions to Leeds City College over the past five years as the deputy head for apprenticeships within the School of Travel, Food and Drink. Helen’s exceptional leadership has revolutionised the butchery apprenticeship programme, boosting its achievement rate from 4% in 2019 to an impressive 85.7% in 2023/24, exceeding the national benchmark by almost 10%. Additionally, under her guidance, the Advanced Butcher Standard was introduced, with a projected 100% achievement rate this year. Helen’s dedication to the industry is evident in the success of her students. The current cohort of Level 3 butchers all began their journey as Level 2 apprentices at Leeds City College, and many now manage the shops where they started. Notably, one former Level 2 apprentice now owns two shops and employs his own apprentice, who recently won the York Guild Butcher of the Year Award, achieving excellence in her apprenticeship. This achievement underscores Helen’s influence and the high quality of training at the college. Helen has also made significant strides in improving employee engagement and performance through customised delivery models tailored to individual employers’ needs. Her extensive connections and deep understanding of employer requirements have driven these improvements. Helen has also recently recognised the need for a Food and Drink Process Operator Level 2 standard within meat processing plants. Collaborating with FDQ and key employers such as ABP and YPM, she developed an innovative delivery model that accommodates shift patterns by blending on-site and college-based training.

Since joining ABP, Kate has transformed the apprenticeship and learning provision within the business. Her role as apprentice and early careers manager means she oversees the progression of over 100 apprentices throughout ABP, covering subject areas from butchery right through to HR and business administration. Kate started in her role 18 months ago, during this time she has fostered a positive, company wide approach to learning and development. Her role encompasses 20 sites around the UK and Northern Ireland, and across these sites there has been a rise in the number of colleagues starting an apprenticeship or other learning programme. Achievement rates have also risen due to her dedication, support and investment in all learners. An area of real importance for Kate is working closely with third party training providers and End-point Assessment Organisations. Her approach in this area allows all parties to play their part in helping apprentices and learners to realise their highest potential. This demonstrates the extent to which Kate looks to help apprentices and facilitate the best learning experience possible and she is continually looking at ways to further the progress she has made already in her role. This includes finding new areas of focus to make the apprenticeship/learning journey for all her colleagues as rewarding as possible. Her passion and enthusiasm for the industry is great to see and Kate is a fantastic ambassador for ABP and the wider industry. Teigan began working at Noble Foods at just 16 during her school holidays. Originally planning to join the police force, Teigan soon realised she wanted to work at Noble Foods prompting her to leave college and pursue a full-time position. Her journey from an operative in the packing room to a plant inspection assistant (PIA) at just 17 years old has demonstrated her determination, dedication, ability and hard work, and she was (and still maybe is) the youngest PIA in the country. She hopes this will inspire other young women to consider careers in the meat industry. Her career progression is also marked by personal milestones, such as earning enough to pay for her driving lessons and dental treatment, boosting her confidence and independence. Starting as an operative and quickly moving to the kill and evisceration department, she has taken on roles usually reserved for more experienced individuals, showcasing her exceptional capabilities. Teigan is currently pursuing a Level 2 apprenticeship in Food and Drink, while her long-term ambition is to train and encourage other young people to consider the great variety of jobs in the agriculture sector.

Tegan Bodles is the category and insight manager at Finnebrogue, a senior role she was promoted to 16 months ago. She joined the company in 2021 as a customer insight analyst. Prior to this, she worked in a number of customer-facing roles for local businesses whilst studying for BSc International Business with French, followed by a MSc Marketing, where she achieved a Distinction. Tegan is 27 years old and has showcased a remarkable trajectory within Finnebrogue during her two and a half years at the business. She uses a blend of analytical skills, strategic thinking and effective collaboration to understand consumer behaviour, market trends and product performance. The company say what sets Tegan apart is not just her dedication to traditional values but her capacity to leverage technology and data creatively. Caitlin was instrumental in AHDB’s first GEN Z Pilot on TikTok, reaching an impressive 3.3 million consumers. This initiative showcased her ability to engage a younger audience and foster positive discussions about meat. Her work in presenting a modern and inclusive view of British farming through the ‘Farmers’ Stories’ campaign has been exemplary. Caitlin also led AHDB’s most successful ‘Eat like a Lioness’ PR campaign, during the Women’s World Cup featuring ex-England footballer Anita Asante. Amy joined Dawn Meats in January 2021 as an administrator in the Food Service, Transport and Customer Care team, this was her first job having completed her leaving certificate in 2020. Amy’s approach to learning is very agile, she responds to the needs of the business in a quick and dynamic way. She is flexible and extremely willing to take on new tasks, especially the training required for customs procedures arising from Brexit and sharing this learning with the wider team. Amy was given the opportunity to take on more responsibility in relation to transport and was offered a place on the Logistics Associate Apprenticeship in 2022. The programme was an excellent opportunity to upskill and develop within her role. Since then, she has acted as an ambassador for the programme at job fairs and school visits, promoting female representation within logistics and raising awareness about the prospect of a great career for females as well as males. Amy acts as a ‘training buddy’ for new hires on to the team. Since joining Dawn Meats. Her proposer said: “Anna has been a total inspiration to the site since my own arrival at Pilgrim’s Europe.” Anna began her career with Pilgrim’s as a line operator and after a period of six months moved into the QA department, where she quickly picked up the role to advance to QA supervisor and then in the last 12 months progressing to QA manager. Anna has proven to be a great leader who makes time and genuinely cares about her team and the business.  She has drive and determination to succeed and is tipped to make a great leader in the future for the company. Anna takes ownership of the role of quality manager on site and is always looking to make improvements throughout the site for quality and food safety and goes above and beyond to see the job through and makes herself available at every opportunity. Anna has embraced all the job requirements and with her discipline has passed all her training with distinction in food safety level 4 and HACCP level 4, and passed her lead auditor course alongside a management development programme.

Charlotte has been employed since 2019 and has progressed from the livestock office to now running the Sawley Lairage as senior lairage supervisor, processing around 2,000 cattle every week. Charlotte has undertaken lots of training starting within her role from Bristol Animal Welfare Training to her FDQ Level 2 so she can perform stunning and sticking. Charlotte has a team of eight reporting to her, including two visa staff who she has embraced and supported when they moved to the UK from the Philippines. Charlotte is currently undertaking the Level 3 Female Forward Aspiring / Front-Line leadership programme and has demonstrated herself to be very passionate about her role as well as the business. She has made exceptional progress so far and demonstrates the potential for yet more future growth within the business.

Lorna initially came to Dawn Meats on work placement. On completion of her degree she started in Charleville as a food safety quality graduate. At the end of the graduate programme, Lorna moved to Dawn Grannagh and was promoted to quality manager. During this time her role has expanded to include food safety and quality manager for the company’s trading and stock plant divisions. Lorna is described as someone who works very hard to expand her knowledge and skills and has recently completed a Postgraduate Degree in Food Regulatory Affairs. Her proposer added: “Lorna is a great role model for graduates and in particular female graduates coming into the business. Before Ellie joined Block & Bottle she worked for several of the top independent restaurants and a bakery in the North East. She joined the business on 1st April 2020… but soon revealed she was no April Fool! When Ellie joined the business it was just about to celebrate its third birthday. Ellie seamlessly integrated into the team at the shop during a period of uncertainty surrounding the pandemic. Her presence was a perfect fit for the small team and straight away Ellie was able to help wherever was necessary, whether that was serving customers, organising her excellent displays of products, or delivering meat to customers who couldn’t get down to the shop due to Covid. It was immediately evident how versatile her skills were and how proactive she was. Ellie had limited butchery experience from working in kitchens, however she demonstrated fantastic knife skills and together with a very keen interest in learning, she quickly picked up butchery skills. Soon, entrusted with more responsibilities, she began working between the shop and production unit, making products for the shop and wholesale customers, improving processes and developing new products. Earlier this year, recognising her exceptional capabilities, the growing company promoted Ellie to operations manager for the entire business. Ellie also plays a significant role in the procurement side of the business. Her strategic initiatives have significantly improved efficiency, minimised waste and ensured smooth business operations. Although in the early stages of her career, her impact has been both profound and transformative on the business.

Sinead joined the business on the company’s award winning Graduate Programme. She immediately adapted to the fast pace of food manufacturing and brought with her a range of skills, which have allowed her to complete the graduate programme with great success, then moving into a permanent role within a busy HR team, located in a site employing 600. Her work ethic and her love of people has allowed Sinead to grow into the role – where she is now the key point of contact for all managers and for people related issues. She is innovative in her thinking, and has helped make improvements both in her own role across the wider team. Her energy is uplifting and her enthusiasm helps her team get projects over the line with ease. She has undertaken the Overseas Worker project, onboarding 100 plus butchers into the site – which has been key to business success. She has tackled any issue along the way both professionally and in her usual light-hearted nature. She has earned the respect of her managers through her knowledge and the way in which she delivers information to a busy production environment. She has a very bright future ahead of her in the food industry, having already worked across some ABP sites in NI and also in Scotland over a short space of time. Sinead is without doubt definitely one to watch.

At just 27, Sarah Hill is currently the assistant technical manager for Finnebrogue’s sausage production site, which has a 52,000-tonne capacity per year / 1,000 tonnes per week. She was promoted to this role in March 2023 following her impressive performance and progression from quality assurance auditor (QA) to quality technologist. Sarah’s rapid advancement within the company is a testament to her exceptional skills, dedication and potential. She is responsible for the day-to-day technical functions of the site including food safety and quality control, and for leading her team of 11 quality assurance auditors across both day and night shifts. Sarah showed herself to be a determined and trusted leader when she effectively led the team of quality assurance auditors through the busy 2023 Christmas period; a time when the majority of senior managers were at external cold stores in England. This year, she led her first solo external audit, something she is particularly proud off. It provided the opportunity for Sarah to really excel and showcase her now diverse skillset of technical expertise, attention to detail, leadership and delegation, problem-solving, communication and organisation. By rising through the ranks, Sarah has demonstrated her dedication, resilience, and ability to learn and adapt. These qualities, combined with her technical expertise and leadership skills, make her an effective manager who can inspire confidence and drive continuous improvement within her team.

When the business first heard from Sarah in 2021, they were unsure how she would cope as a young female in a male-dominated workforce, but all doubts vanished on meeting Sarah when it was clear to see she had great potential. She left behind her family and troubled past in Manchester to start afresh in Gloucestershire.  Her improved confidence and her maturity allows her to stay calm, think about the problem and resolve it reasonably. When she first started, although her previous work experience was with a butcher, her role was mainly as a shop assistant with limited access to the processing of meat. During her apprenticeship with Cam Catering Butchers, Sarah has applied herself fully to her learning and now has a great knowledge and understanding of various meats and the different cuts and techniques that can be applied. Her previous experience has also been extremely useful with regard to her customer service skills – Sarah is confident in serving customers and takes every opportunity to add on to sales and increase order values. Sarah is regarded as a key member of the team, she has shown amazing progress and is fast becoming a brilliant butcher and a great asset to the business.

Sophie came into the business with a third level degree that was not affiliated to any specific HR science, however from the outset it was obvious she was a natural people person. Her personality is so refreshing that you come away from every interaction smiling due to her lovely nature. Sophie has committed herself to a career in HR and started down the path of formal qualifications gaining a distinction for Diploma in HR Management recently. She has fitted into both the Group HR team and her site team effortlessly, and is now a real ‘go to’ person whereby people seek out her assistance to help them with their queries. With her marketing background she has brought many new ideas to the business, particularly for the employee engagement side of HR. Colleagues’ agree that it is a pleasure to observe someone flourish as they find their true passion and her proposer also added: “We look forward seeing her progression within the company.”

Katy started at ABP UK as a technical placement student in July 2020. She then spent 12 months learning the world of beef processing, in particular the workings of the technical team. Subsequently, Katy very quickly became an integral part of that team. Her proposer adds: “When I started in July 2021 as the incoming placement student, Katy spent two months onboarding me to the business and teaching me all she knows. Without Katy’s support and knowledge I wouldn’t be in the position I am in today.” As part of her development Katy returned to the University of Nottingham to finish her studies and in May 2022 she then returned to ABP Doncaster as technical systems administrator. In this role she supported the technical support manager with the management of HACCP and FSQMS. Not only this, but she continued to support colleagues both in their professional and personal development. Katy worked hard to understand the roles of all in her team and her manager. Recently Katy has been promoted to technical support manager, which is a testament to her hard work. No matter how busy Katy is she always has time to answer questions and ensure everyone is supported. Katy is described an inspiration to colleagues and young people on the site. Chloe leads the OSI UK & Ireland sustainability commitments, working closely with the supply chain team to deliver for the group. Chloe is leading the company’s sustainability strategy across a diverse range of food products and sustainability issues. She has already embarked on her NEBOSH qualification, having never previously worked in a health and safety or environmental role, or in the meat industry in any capacity. She is dedicated and very committed to the business, and is supporting the culture onsite to be more proactive and health and safety focused. Jade is also undertaking training to be able to support the onsite environmental officer. She has made exceptional progress and demonstrates the real potential for future growth within the business.

Rebecca Sullivan

Rebecca joined Dawn Meats straight from college and was ‘thrown in at the deep end’ in terms of responsibility and tasks as an existing team member unexpectedly left during this period. From day one, Rebecca’s calm nature and ability to focus when in pressurised or stressful situations has been a huge asset. These characteristics have helped her develop strong relationships with key senior production personnel and is based on trust in Rebecca to do the right thing at the right time. In terms of business impact, production supervisors and managers are more able to focus their time and efforts on production related tasks, knowing Rebecca will handle any request or issue they raise in an efficient and professional manner. The same can also be said about her relationship with the company’s multinational operatives, who feel they can approach Rebecca with any issues knowing they will be dealt with correctly and confidentially. Rebbecca is a great asset and an example in building still further Dawn’s reputation as a great place to work.

Wiktoria Tomaszewska

Transport Administrator & Supervisor
Dunbia, Preston

Wiktoria came into the Dunbia business with no food industry related experience whatsoever. From her first days, however, colleagues could tell she is a very quick learner. When she identifies an issue she acts quickly to get it resolved. Always going the extra mile, she is not intimidated to communicate with people at a higher level when required. She has all her tasks under control, hence she was given the opportunity to act as transport supervisor, where she is dealing with transport planning and export related issues. Wiktoria very quickly got to grips with all three requirements – and this progress was seen by managers in the company. Her proposer adds: “Everyone can rely on her when there are extra hours of work to cover. She is also very good at teaching less experienced colleagues.” At only 24 years old, Wiktoria really has a bright future ahead in the industry. In taking up the position as transport administrator and supervisor, which places more pressure and responsibilities on her, she has demonstrated her ability to work hard and will never leave a task undone, even if this means having to work very late on occasions. Everyone agrees that Wiktoria is a valuable person in the transport office and has a very bright future at Dunbia.

Leisia Tudor

Agriculture Manager
Dunbia Group

Leisia is an agriculture manager in Wales for Dunbia Group, working closely on the beef and lamb accounts for some of the UK’s largest retailers. She has been bought up on her family farm and has recently moved near her partners farm where they run a commercial sheep flock and breed pedigree Welsh Black cattle. She originally joined Dunbia via the Dunbia Group’s graduate programme as sales and commercial graduate. For a graduate, Leisia was given considerable responsibility as she was able to demonstrate capability to manage and complete important tasks. Before being at Dunbia in the role she currently occupies, Leisia also worked as a flock and herd health officer for the Welsh meat levy board HCC. As agriculture manager in Wales for Dunbia Group, Leisia now works closely with members across the supply chain. This involves bridging the gap between retailers and farmers to ensure supply chain efficiency, particularly as Dunbia works towards its Plan for Net Zero strategy. This has seen Leisia work with farmers to measure key performance indicators, work on animal health and grassland projects and review carcass specification to support farmers in running a profitable and sustainable enterprise. Leisia also runs live-to-dead sessions with farmers, colleges and stakeholders, to demonstrate how to choose livestock for slaughter. She also sits on HCC’s new Sustainable Innovation and Research Working Group.

Olivia Weston

Technical Process Developer
ABP Doncaster

Olivia recently completed her Level 3 Food Technologist apprenticeship with Linden Management and FDQ, achieving the highest grade of Distinction. She successfully interviewed for the role of a general operative at ABP Doncaster and after excelling in that position she was quickly promoted to a quality auditor within the technical department. After starting the position in the technical team, Olivia began studying for her Level 3 Food Technologist apprenticeship. Now that she has completed her apprenticeship, she has stepped into the role of technical process developer at the site. One of her main responsibilities is maintaining the link between new product development and the technical team to ensure all due diligence supporting documentation is in place, which the Food Technologist apprenticeship has developed her to undertake. Olivia wants to continue to expand her skill set and grow further as a member of the technical team with ABP. Her proposer adds: “Despite not initially thinking about a career at ABP when she left school, Olivia has really relished working at ABP Doncaster and has excelled in gaining a deeper understanding of all aspects of food production.”

Butchery Manager

Elsie’s knowledge and her dedication to the trade is impressive! She has worked at multiple award-winning butchers, has teaching qualifications and has competed at multiple competitions including the World Butcher’s Challenge in Sacramento as part of the UK team. The business thrives on the enthusiasm of the whole team at Garnetts, whose commitment to stockmanship, welfare and animal husbandry is of the highest standard. The Smith family has been farming at Great Garnetts since 1970 and the business is currently headed up by Jonathan and his wife Julie. Turkeys are produced exclusively for the Christmas market, and it has a thriving business in pork products. Elsie is described as an all-round wonderful person to work with and is truly talented, playing a big part in the success of the business and she is also very creative. Elsie joined the Great Garnetts team back in 2021, having completed a butchery apprenticeship through M.E.A.T. Ipswich. During her time as an apprentice, she was a finalist in the Young Butcher of the Year and in 2018 was crowned Retail Student of The Year whilst working at Hards of Halstead.
